I'm Melissa Misurelli, a fine art artist and illustrator based in Utah. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration, complemented by a minor in Art History, from Utah Valley University. While studying at UVU I had the privilege of learning from many talented and skilled professors, including a oil painting mentorship under Christopher Young.

 

My artistic roots extend back to my childhood. Nature played a pivotal role in my inspiration, stemming from countless hours spent exploring the hills behind one of my childhood homes, climbing trees, and sitting beside the creek dreaming up stories and drawing.

I had the unique experience of living in Budapest, Hungary for six months and visiting Vienna, Austria. My family was situated in Hungary due to my father's involvement in the movie "Hudson Hawk." We went to castles, museums, art galleries, and the picturesque Hungarian countryside left an indelible mark on my creative spirit. Witnessing the reproductions of Leonardo da Vinci and other masterpieces on movie sets ignited my fascination with the timeless allure of Europe's past.

Drawing inspiration from my travels and the artworks of Old Masters, my goal is to infuse my paintings with the essence of Dutch Baroque, Italian Renaissance, and pre-Raphaelite styles. My passion lies in crafting enthralling portraits imbued with antique aesthetics, romance, florals, and an enchanting melancholy. My favorite medium is oil, which allows me to breathe life into traditional figures and portraits with realism and romance.

My heart beats for autumn, and I possess an affinity for the spooky season and the elegant aesthetic of Victorian Gothic style. Early on, I found joy in immersing myself in traditional Grimm Fairy Tales and capturing the magic of storytelling through illustrations in children's books.

Beyond the canvas, I am a follower of Christ, wife to my best friend and a proud mother of five beautiful children, including a pair of boy/girl twins. When I'm not engaged in the world of art, I relish quality time with my family, savoring the outdoors, experimenting with cooking and baking, singing, and embracing urban homesteading.
